In an announcement that was more informational than a surprise, Disney announced that there will officially be a 4th Pirates of the Caribbean film. The announcement was part of the unveiling that Disney does every few years, in which the company gives information on many projects that are set to come from their stable. The 4th installment of the Pirates franchise had been considered for a while now, but with the key component finally signed on, it was time to make the announcement. The film itself looks to have a 2011 or 2012 release, with work set to begin as soon as all the people involved are in place.
Johnny Depp Returning as Highest Paid Actor
Along with the promise that Pirates of the Caribbean 4 would be coming along soon, Johnny Depp was on hand to show his support for the new film. Dressed entirely in the make-up and garb of his character Captain Jack Sparrow, Depp helped make the announcement in person. Many of the details of the film, including its sub-title, have not been released as of yet, and neither have some key facets of the film. There is no director attached to the project as of yet, with Gore Verbinski, the director of the first 3 films, still not under contract. Entertainment Weekly though, is reporting that Depp was signed on to make $55 million for his role in the 4th film.
What is the Plot of Pirates Four?
Details have not been released in regards to what the fourth films plot will be, nor has it been announced who the acting cast of the film might end up being. There is also no news as to whether Keira Knightley (Elizabeth Swann) or Orlando Bloom (Will Turner) will reclaim the roles they made famous in the first three films.
Pirates of the Caribbean an Extremely Successful Franchise
Business has been very good for Disney and its Pirate's films, having brought in more than $1 billion in box office business within the United States alone. Add in tickets sales from around the world, DVD sales, and of course the merchandising that Disney had made off of the films and the characters, and you can see why it just makes a lot of business sense to produce a fourth film.
